truly excellent example of the style, heck of a start for these guys, every beer was very well refined and professional, no amateur growing pains on the quality side, seems like the folks responsible for this place really know what they are doing, a refreshing change of pace from the typical brewery opening in these parts! this is a real nice beer, easy drinking, less sweet than most, still light in body, soft feeling, with nice grain layers and a classically german complexion overall, even though again the yeast is pretty subtle, a theme across a handful of their beers. amber in color, chestnut maybe, with an airy tan head that holds on. it smells and tastes autumnal and slightly rich, with layers of toffee, almond, and dark bread, as well as a slightly dusty german malty vibe giving it authenticity. the yeast is familiar, the mineral character comes through, its got subtle spice notes that make it festive, and i do get some dry cocoa in the grain, quite a bit of nuance for a beer this drinkable. smooth, grain driven but with the ferment there too, and not filling at all. hard not to be stoked on berts here in the early going, the beers have all been so solid. this one will make their neighbors trying to do similar beers rather jealous i would think...
