i thought i had enjoyed and reviewed this before but apparently not, they are serving it on the side pull faucet too which is very flattering to this brew, a fine example of the style, rich and flavorful but also easy drinking in the fall, a cool beer for this time of year, warms up well, a great seasonal session, technically solid, these guys are really on a roll of late. more red than brown in color with a tiny bubbled off white head resting effortlessly on top easily an inch and a half tall, backlit and clear, really pretty color. some sweetness in the nose, dark brown sugar, german grain and yeast to me, somewhat subtle, bready and toasted, cooked, and autumnal though and through, mellow chestnut and wood to me, hearty without being heavy it seems, and the flavor is similar. a light toffee hint, an amber type profile, light raisin, dried cherry, and fig fruitiness, a little less sweet than it smells, and more fermentation character as it warms a little bit which is nice, old world lager. smooth with the side pull, soft feeling with some life, a nice pleasant stewed fruit aftertaste, light hops, and compatible minerality. not among their most compelling brews for me, but its certainly well made and enjoyable, especially this time of year, and maybe the best locally made example of the style thats out right now...

Side pull at Bert's. Clear brown pour, three finger cream colored head. Toasty, nutty aroma. Taste is malty, toast, gentle bitterness, very light on the palate. Side pull makes it feel like a cloud in your mouth. Wonderful.
