Draft at Bert's. Dark brown pour, some light sneaking through, fine layer of lasting tan head, lots of lacing. Light toasty aroma, minor bitterness. Taste is burnt toast, chocolate, sweet. Smooth overall with faint bitterness.

solid new one from these guys, like so often with their beer, its quite simple, but i like how appreciable the oats are in the flavor, not just in the texture, its a great contribution they make to this, define it really, but its lighter than most, has a lesser body, less roast intensity, especially on the finish, not that this is missing something, but its lighter than i usually think of for oatmeal stout, despite the obvious oat aspects. some reddish edges in the glass, only really looks black in the very dim light, and almost thin in terms of apparent body, even with the oats, over an inch of airy off white head though, wispy and loose. the nose is roasty, a hint of lighter coffee to it, almost a brown ale dry cocoa powder thing, some earthiness, a root beer note, some modest caramel sweetness apparent too, but this is rather straightforward overall. the flavor is specifically oaty, even beyond the nose, like actual oatmeal made for breakfast, earthy and starchy and even kind of protein forward on the palate, nice with the little bit of bitter roast and the brown sugar sweetness, like breakfast with notes of coffee there, and sort of a warm profile overall when sometimes this style can feel cool to me, but not too sweet. really light in body, its long from the oats but not so big as many, well refined, could be drier but i like the flow, relaxed carbonation is enough, lightly creamy, cocoa on the swallow, easy for what it is, another well made beer from these guys that leans into drinkability perhaps at the expense of depth, but i dig it, and the name is clever!
