Draft at Bert's. To learn golden pour, thin foamy head lingers. Aroma is bready, grainy, full. Taste brings in the mildly sweet malts, bready, grainy with a nice chewy feel

a solid mug of maibock here, a little mellow in a style of lager i generally find more malty and robust, but well executed overall, drinkable enough for the spring, which is the point, and a nice addition to their current lineup, which is strong at the moment, lots of new ones when we visited this time! brassy to bronzed but short of reddish color depth, lighter than many, and not quite all the way clear either, short headed as these go, white and a half inch tall from the tap, gone a little too quickly. the aroma is decidedly german but also somewhat subtle, bready and toasted but not caramelized, only a touch sweet, the lager yeast is apparent, and this is earthy, fresh, and kind of basic in a good way. the flavor is right there with the nose, appropriately grain driven with biscuit and light almond nutty notes, honey and slight floral character but not hoppy really, nice minerality, iron, soil, bread crusts at the end, just a little alcohol coming through, faintly tannic at temperature. its a tad under carbonated in a style i want to really move, and a half liter felt ever so slightly tiresome, but its drinkable beer anyway, not as crisp as it could be, but tasty and mild and it fits the season.
