for brown ale that isnt english, this is the absolute sweet spot for me, not too dark pushing into porter, not so light as to be almost amber, not that sweet, light bodied but not thin, layered with nuances of chocolate, honey, fig, raisin, chestnut, hazelnut, and toasted rustic bread, its complex but cohesive, drinkable but not at all plain, and overall this is super well done, pristine, and something i will be drinking happily on all autumn long if they keep it around, this is ideal for the season we are about to be in, and i am excited. deep enough in color to have some roast to it, balancing bitterness against the sweeter middle malts this has, but it doesnt overtake it, and that is the zone to be in, and the same cleanness thats in so many berts beers, kind of their calling card, is also identifiable in this, like it has a lightness and tidiness that doesnt usually come out in a style like brown ale, and its impressive. great flavors, nice malt build, and just fantastic on the whole, football beer. i dont often get too jazzed on a basic brown ale, but this is executed so darn well. one of the better recent berts beers, which is saying a lot because they have been on fire now for awhile. cant recommend this highly enough, i guess it dawns on me now how uncommon any brown ale has become, let alone one this good, really a space most have vacated. a welcome addition to their beer list, cant wait for my next pint!

Taster at Bert's. Clear brown pour, islands of fine bubbles, lacing. Aroma is nutty, woody, mild roast. Taste adds some sweetness, malty, nutty, light bitterness lingers.
