new to me rye lager here, always been a fan of their lager game at berts, and there always seems to be something new coming on, love that. this is solid, a little conservative on the rye, not one of those spice bombs driven by pale rye malt, but its nuanced beer that has well integrated rye character thats as apparent in the texture of this as it is in the flavor, nicely lagered, fresh, easy down and not boring, no complaints from me, although i pretty much could always take a little more rye in this sort of thing, thats kind of the point. golden to brass but not yellow, richer than that, pretty clear with some shine and a sudsy white head content to stay awhile, good consistent carbonation, pretty well refined looking on the whole. smells fresh but understated, less of the earthy rye than expected, a light honey note without it being sugary, a little european thing to the yeast, distinctive minerality, the sort of berts house vibe about this, i can tell its theirs with just one whiff, a compliment at this point, mellow on the hops, balanced stuff, fresh and all, a little doughy, light white peppery rye malt to it, lightly nutty as well without being heavy at all. the flavor is good, more expressive than the nose on the rye side but still a tad safe to me, well grounded, peppery, some floral hops give it a lift, and the lagering is super clean so this is light and fresh even with this much grain character, very well composed, and as such very drinkable, tons of tiny bubble carbonation, really nice vibrancy to it, enhances the experience. approachable and professional rye lager, strong effort, hope this one sticks around awhile, one of my favorites from this recent visit, if you can tolerate the rye pun...

Taster flight at Bert's. Clear golden pour, wispy head, rings of lacing. Grainy, bready aroma. Taste is sweet, grainy, full mouthfeel. Simple but so flavorful. Really nice use of the rye.
