my favorite beer from our visit this time i think, a lovely coffee porter with some locally roasted java, clean and professional execution, always the case from berts, pretty bold on the coffee though which i love, especially in the aroma, its fresh and coffee driven, beautiful with the well layered grain in here, modest roast level, pleasant cocoa and dark bread notes too, nice balance overall, light bitterness and no acidity at all from the coffee addition, so well done there. brownish red beer, lighter side of porter in color, but it does carry enough dark grain to it to not just hit like a brown ale, the coffee brings some low end bass notes there as well too, beautifully dosed, just a modest tan head on this one, some lace as it drinks down. the nose is the best part, the coffee is warm and cozy with high end chocolate and some hazelnut character to it, trace fudge brownie, vanilla, and tree bark organic earthiness, nice with just a little molasses type sweetness. the flavor follows, coffee all through it and nice movement, never too intense, lots of cocoa, nuttiness, and a cozy wintery vibe without any of it being too strong or heavy. subtle yeast character is appropriate, carbonation is adequate, and the body is light for what it is, smooth to me rather than sharp like coffee beers can often be, freshness is wonderful on the coffee, its the first and last thing i taste, great quality. i dont think ive had coffee from epiphany before, this might be the first i am hearing of them, but this beer has me eager to try the beans, the coffee profile in this is that good. great coffee porter, they nailed this one, real drinkable, flavorful, and distinctive as they go, the coffee is front and center and the quality is way high, well done!
