Dark brownish red in color, with a persistent head.
Very complex smell, with a lot of malt and some fruity notes. Taste was dominated by ale fruits and minor malt notes with some hops in the background.
Overall an enjoyable beer, and a solid representation of the styles textbook characteristics. I wish the style were more common, so I could compare it to another breweries version.

bought about a year and a half ago.
.pour is a bit more amber than most saison. smell is mild sweet belgian, pilsner hop, a mellow must of barns, a cloud of lemon grassy, lemon zest. the palate has an essence of mint and a light dry pepper along with the sour backing. a good beer. can feel the core of something special would like to try something fresher... don't really care excellent balance.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a tulip. This saison poured a hazy golden/amber color with a minimal white head that disappeared almost immediately. The aroma was made up of apricot, strong yeast, some cinnamon, and also a bit of pepper. The flavor was a bit sweet and sour, with a nice peppery finish. I can't believe there weren't any spices used. You could really taste some clove, cinnamon, and pepper. The mouthfeel was medium to full-bodied with a good hit of carbonation. Very crisp and refreshing. I didn't quite know what to think of this beer the first time I tried it at the 10th anniversary, but now it has really started to grow on me. Can't wait to see what lies ahead for Back Road Brewery.
