Bee Beer “Agente 99”
33 cl brown glass bottle without production codes or freshness dating
€4,10 @ Bee Beer Chueca on 21/11/23
Notes via stream of consciousness: It’s poured a hazy deep amber colored body that’s almost to becoming copper beneath just a very thin cap of white bubbles. It appears to be lacking carbonation, and more concerning, there’s a distinct ring in the neck of the bottle. I have a second bottle so let me check that one for a ring… yes, it’s there, but it appears thinner. Let me open up that one. .. .. .. The appearance is the same. In the nose it’s bright with a floral, sweetish, sugary, candy-like, and tomato-like character. At this point I’m a little trepidations about tasting it but here goes… .. .. .. it’s sweetish and candy-like with an apple-like fruitiness and that weird tomato character found in the aroma. I don’t like it. That’s not to say that others won’t but for me it’s a little too weird. Is that because the bottles have gone bad? Perhaps. I’d hoped to try it on tap but it wasn’t available. The lack of carbonation doesn’t help it either. It comes across as a flat, sugary drink rather than a beer. With that said, however, the honey is clear, and it’s floral and charming. Beyond that it’s a wreck. It remains in balance somehow but the finish is disappointing as it’s flat and dull with sweetish and honeyish malt lingering. I’m not finding any hops at all although I’m sure they’re there. I’m left wanting. If there were some hop flavors, bitterness, or even cinnamon or some other spice that would work well with it I’d be happy but it’s devoid of those things. In the mouth it’s medium bodied, a little bit dextrinous, and flat with hardly any carbonation. I don’t know if this is just a bad bottle or not because the beers that I had on tap were all good, but this is a disaster.
