Bee Beer “Columbus Y Azahar”
33 cl brown glass bottle coded “Lotte / Consumir preferentemente antes del L:016/21 May2023” and sampled on 25/11/2023
€4,70 @ Bee Beer Chueca on 21/11/23
Notes via stream of consciousness: So I was sold old beer at the Chueca location. This is roughly 6 months past its best by date so let’s see. It’s poured a mostly clear dark amber body beneath a short head of white foam. The aroma is floral and lightly citrusy, herbal, and piney over a gently sweetish malt, and it’s quite nice. In fact, I love the aroma, and it’s one of those beers that you could almost just smell all day instead of drinking but here we go… it’s floral, sweetish, lightly fruity, earthy, and a touch mineralish and metallic. I don't really get the honey but perhaps that's because of all the hops? Or not. It’s a bit oxidized but it’s not that bad. Still, I’m disappointed that I was sold old beer at the brewery; if it had been a secondary outlet I’d understand. The malt is basic, grainy, lightly sweetish, and a touch biscuity. There’s a pleasant apple-like fruitiness from the yeast. The hops follow the aroma with floral, herbal, earthy, spicy, and softly citrusy notes. It’s nicely balanced by a firm bitterness and it finishes dry with all of the hop characteristics lingering gently. In the mouth it’s medium bodied and gently crisp.
