Bee Beer “Dr. Insólito”
33 cl brown glass bottle coded “Lote / Consumir preferentemente antes del L:021/23 01ABR2025” and sampled on 25/11/25
€4,70 @ Bee Beer Chueca on 21/11/23
Notes via stream of consciousness: A clear golden body rests gently beneath a very short head of white foam that soon dissipates into almost nothing. The aroma has an unusual cocoa pwder note to it alongside the expected pineapple (this is a pineapple IPA). It’s not off-putting in any way but it’s unexpected. The taste is sweetish, pineapple-like, floral, and again, like cocoa powder. I must be losing my mind because this just can’t be. Let me try a piece of Manchego cheese and see if that tastes off… no, that tastes just fine so I’m probably not imagining it. Everyone tastes things differently to different people though so maybe in the end it is just me. Based on the color of the beer I doubt there’s any malt that would deliver that, nor do I think they added cocoa powder to it. The label lists only water, malted barley, honey, and pineapple. It must be coming from the honey, which is odd. Apart from that it’s not a bad taste, and it’s nicely balanced by a moderate to stiff bitterness. It’s medium bodied in the mouth and a touch dextrinous, but lacking in terms of carbonation. I find it flat and lackluster. It’s interesting but not at all what I was expecting. I hate to call it an average beer because it’s not, but that’s what the numbers add up to. The beers that I had on tap were much better and I think that perhaps the problem lies in the bottling of the beer.
