A lot of roastiness in the malt, not exactly what I'm expecting from an English brown ale. Tasted more like a watered-down stout than a brown ale.

On tap at the brewery tasting room on 30th Street. Brewer describes this as an English Brown Ale. Lovely chestnut brown color in the nonic. It's an interesting malty concoction, a little murky and rather sweet.
Lots of flavor for a lower-alcohol brew, but you just have to be in the mood for this subtle style. I'd describe it as at the other end of the "Session" spectrum from the sub-five-percent IPAs. Some gummy caramel with a touch of scorched sugar in the back of the throat. [Reviewed Oct 04, 2015]

Type: 16-oz. draft
Glass: Clear pint shaker pint glass
From: Main Tap Tavern in El Cajon, Calif.
Price: $6.25
Purchased: June 4, 2016
Consumed: June 4, 2016
Misc.: N/A
Was already regretting this purchase as soon as I made it. There were plenty of other better options and I’m just talking about style, but I decided on an English Brown Ale. Not a style that I am that familiar in and not a style that I really wanted. Woof.
Poured a reddish, brown, dark copper color with one finger of khaki tan, fizzy head when I got it. Bad wet lacing. Poor retention. (Sight - 3.00)
Smelled boozy stale beer, toasted grain, toasted caramel, toffee, brown bread and some chocolate. (Smell - 3.25)
Tasted slightly better than the nose, getting bitter toast, dark fruit, chocolate, toasted toffee, brown bread and hints of charred wood. (Taste - 3.50)
Medium body. Thin-to-oily texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt finish. (Feel - 3.25)
This might just be not being used to the style, but it was just OK. (Overall - 3.25)
