Locks and Planes, a Varitage staple, pays homage to the 23 locks and 23 planes of the Morris Canal, which runs through Bloomfield, NJ. Bursting with tropical fruit and pine aromatics & flavor thanks to copious amounts of Mosaic and Idaho7 hops.

Pint pour on draught at the brewery. Served in a shaker glass. It is hazy tangerine in color with a half finger of fluffy, eggshell head and lots of thick, sudsy lacing. The smell includes lemon, grapefruit, strawberry, and a whiff of pine resin. Its taste opens with tart lemon peel and bitter grapefruit over a firm, crackery malt base. As it warms, there are hints of red berry and apricot. The combination of Mosaic and Idaho 7 hops works well. But it is also quite bitter at 77 IBU. The mouth feel is lite and crisp with appropriate carbonation, and it's an easy drinker at 6.8% ABV. Overall, Locks and Planes is a solid American IPA that coaxes lots of flavor from its hop bill. I would drink this again in a flash.
