Craft Brand Co’s newest beer project, Lower West Side.
This West Coast IPA is beaming with aromas of grapefruit peel, resin and pine. It is hoppy, dank & seriously delicious. This gem is brewed with the 3 C's; Columbus, Centennial and Citra, with a touch of Mosaic! It is a beautiful balance of west coast bittnerness and aromas.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, from my favourite LCBO at The Roundhouse Centre in nearby Windsor. My first beer from the Etobicoke, ON brewery.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Dec 21 2023 and served barely chilled.
Pours a foggy amber-bronze colour with plenty of effervescence; it's topped with nearly two fingers of luscious, lumpy, soapy white head that lasts for nigh on ten minutes. As it recedes, it cakes the glass with a lovely coat of lacing; its final remnants include a thick, sudsy cap and collar that linger for much longer. Pine stands out on the nose, with hints of grapefruit, licorice, bready malts, caramelized sugars and resiny, spicy hops.
A nice IPA, with a tried and true flavour profile courtesy of the C-hops touted on its noisy label. Grapefruit, orange peel and pine resin, supported by bready, wheaty malts and some caramel sweetness. Finishes with earthy, spicy hops and pine resin bitterness that dissipates into a slightly citrusy-sweet aftertaste. Medium in body, with moderate carbonation that drops off quickly - so it's crisp for the first half of the session, then soft and fluffy later on. Very quaffable - I could've enjoyed another can, if I'd had one on hand.
Final Grade: 3.83, a B+. An unremarkable yet still perfectly fine IPA that takes me back to a simpler time: I'm talking before IPAs had begun to hog Ontario's craft beer shelves. The west coast IPAs that predominated back in those days - themselves antecedents of Lower West Side - are undeniably in the minority now. Oh, and there were also these things called English IPAs, too! In all seriousness, I don't think this is a particularly extraordinary example of an old school IPA, but it is a good one that I'd like to revisit in the future, especially if I can find a fresh can.

473ml can served cool into a pint glass. Canned December 7, 2023.
Appearance - Amber colored brew with some haze. Three fingers of off-white but yellow tinged head are poured with very good staying power.
Smell - Pine and grapefruit with some caramel malt leaking through. Decent intensity and what you'd expect from a west coast IPA.
Taste - Pine flavors that initially are there then fade into something more fruity, papaya maybe. Bitterness is medium. Earthy bitterness at the close.
Mouthfeel - Medium-full bodied, some prickly carbonation and semi-dry finish.
Overall - I first enjoyed this from the can and thought it was just ok. Served cool into a glass significantly enhanced this experience and makes for a pretty decent IPA. Worth a try, if you're forever looking for a new (but this is retro) beer.

Poured a473ml can into a tulip. A big four finger head on a cloudy dark amber. Great head retention. Lots of patchy lacing.
Pine and citrus in the nose.
Again tastes of pine and citrus. Decent hop finish.
Light body and medium carbonation.
Nice. Fairly smooth. A serviceable American IPA. Better than I expected.
