Fantastic head production and retention. Head is a fairly dark brown, even for the style. Body is crystal clear but very dark brown, shot through with red and purple highlights.
Fairly restrained and simple aroma, but quite pleasant, with notes of cola and dark bread. No spicy, metallic, or aspirin-like notes, which can be common in the style.
A bit sweeter on the palate than the nose presents, with raisin and prune added to the dark bread profile. Much like the nose, there are no spicy notes. It's very clean, almost too clean for a 7% Doppelbock; little in the way of yeast expression or depth, and it drinks almost too easily and quickly. No off notes, but perhaps what they gained in a clean experience, they sacrificed in terms of complexity.
This is a lovely and very enjoyable beer. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, but it lacks the depth and richness of the best German-made (or even American-made) Doppelbocks.

Quite lovely clear auburn brown brew with long-lasting fine-grained pile of foam in the big wheat beer glass. Lush with creamy carbonation. Some distinctly sweet malt but well-balanced in that regard. Dark roasted grain with a burnt finish. Kind of sharp, actually.
A little overly bitter in the aftertaste. Hops are listed as Warrior, Saphir, Hallertau, and Mittelfruh. While I welcome some hoppy edge in a Doppelbock this seems like more than you could possibly need. From the 16 oz can purchased at the brewery tap.

On tap at the brewery.
Deep dark amber in hue. Almost brown. A sandy fluff of head caps the beer with decent retention and very scattered slight lacing.
Nose brings light malt, hints of brown bread, but not really sweet.
Flavor comes through with a little bit of toasty brown bread, slight earthiness, and a barely noticeable toffee sweetness.
Mouth feels on the lighter side, mild dry sweetness on the finish.
Overall a pretty nice, slightly less sweet than usual, take on the style.
