czech pils, not crazy fresh to me, but solid execution overall, if a little unexciting, i think these guys make quality beer across a pretty wide range of styles, and i am thankful to have been gifted this single by a new friend, a nice weekend ripper with a fair bit of character still. golden colored, a touch muted on the luster, average white head, pretty hoppy nose as these go, grassy and lightly spicy, somewhat bitter too, noble to me, but dosed almost like a west coast pils, enough earthy cereal grain to balance, a bit of old world lager yeast character, high minerality, short of metallic but leaning that way just a bit, especially as it warms. the flavor has a nice flow, but there is a little staleness in it, and overall its not as bright as some of the other lagers ive had of theirs, the grain seems a tad heavy for the style, not so much in taste i guess but more in the feel, and its influence is early, sort of instantly sturdy, not sweet or anything, and somewhat european together with the yeast in here, brassy. the hops come on later, the bitterness levels out a maybe just north of mid range, but there is a lot of herbal zip to this, fresh cut hay, dried lemon peel, green tea, pleasantly prominent, peaking on the swallow, not a ton of linger. carbonation may be just a little less than optimal here, i like these to pop and this one is a bit more patient, but as a fuller flavored take it works alright. pretty identifiably czech, but not like technically masterful, and with not quite traditional proportions. good not great.
