Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a hazy, light to medium golden amber with a two finger white head with good retention and solid lacing. Aroma of pale malt, citrus and mixed fruit hops, orange, grapefruit, melon, light tropical fruit and a hint of caramel. Flavor is pale malt, citrus and mixed fruit hops, orange, pineapple, cantaloupe, mango and an unexpected smoky note. Moderate bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. I had a sample of both IPAs on tap at the brewery and both, while hazy, had decent, if muted bitterness, I got a can of each. I thought the other one (Gary's) had a little more depth of flavor at the time. This pour is fairly typical hazy IPA but with adequate bitterness. Good tropical and mixed fruit notes. Not sure what is up with the faint smoke flavor, but it was a surprise on first sip (I did not taste it in the sampler), but overall it added a little interest to what is normally not my favorite IPA style. Satisfactory for a hazy IPA, looking forward to tasting the other to see if this odd note is there too.
