Shadow Work is a Rye Stout brewed with, you guessed it, Rye malt, as well as some malted oats, flaked barley, and roasted barley. Hopped ever so gently with Chinook & Centennial to balance some of the sweetness of the grain bill. Shadow Work pours jet black with just the slightest hint of mahogany in the right light. Lightly toasted rye bread & full city roast coffee on the nose and a velvety dark chocolate presence without the accompanying bitterness on the palate.

16oz can served in a nonic pint. Can is dated 12/09/22. Received from the illustrious @jonphisher.
Pours black with a smallish head, leaves a thin, slightly uneven light tan skin across the surface. Smell is roasty, coffee, anise, some dark-toasted rye bread.
Taste is again roasty, lots of anise, and more of a dark rye bread and coffee flavor.
Mouthfeel is fairly light, not particularly active. Overall...I have little experience with rye stouts. This is definitely the best one I've had, but I'm don't think I'm a huge fan of combination. It's good and well made, but I think I'm not personally a big fan of the rye and anise combination that I get out of this.

Black in color; creamy light brown, thin film remains and leaves some pretty nice lacing.
Nose is rich and deep; like dark chocolate laden with little notes of dark roast coffee; there is an underlying earthiness with hints of smoke.
Taste has the same depth; rich dark chocolate, less dark roast coffee; earth and smoke remain slight hint of rye like spice on the finish.
Mouthfeel is interesting; it has a light body but it is slightly viscous, just a tad. Creamy carbonation; and less so…nice little dry and hoppy feel on the tongue; nice little bitterness on the finish.
