Roman is one of the larger Belgian Family Brewers and the Association's oldest, a 5th generation brother and sister now run it. I'm honoured to write its first Place Review. (But then, I'm older than almost all BAers I encounter.)
Anyhow... Roman's sprawling facility is built around a large welcoming courtyard. Directly from the road, our tour (Podge's) of 40 walked past a large events room on the first floor, almost like a Rathskeller. We went upstairs to a traditionally decorated tasting room. After generous samples of mostly the Ename abbey line (all sporting the Belgian Abbey logo), we then had a full tour of the modern production facility from milling to bottling. We all worse neon green safety vests with the slogan: "Roman: Creating Beertourism Since 1545."
On the same side of the courtyard as the tasting rooms is a quasi-cafe that doubles as a lunch area for staff with outdoor tables. (I wished I'd brought my lunch.) Our Podges tour all got a gift pack of two Gentse Strop and its glass, a fitting gift for the rebellious time we are in. (Gentse Strop memorialises the 16th Century Ghent rebellion against the new taxes Charles V issued to pay for his wars.)
I give a particularly high Vibe rating because of Roman's stature and the diversity of their portfolio. Besides, having Abbey beers before noon is holy. Isn't it ?

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the place's attributes plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
