Last day Portland. It’s been quite the day and it’s early yet. A macchiato & the perfect cranberry ginger scone (again) at that amazing coffee place, them 2 breweries in Thompson’s Point, crippling BBQ at Wilson County (fried chicken biscuit sandwich and Brunswick stew, seriously), and an easy roll a few doors down to Argenta. ‘Lager Saloon’. You had me at Lager, Lager, Lager…
Single room corner joint, in and down, and to the rear. Straight wood bar, its panel base glow from below lit. Seating for 6 on lilac hightop chairs. 6 tap ‘T’ tower on the bar with lilac colored Lukr handles (yes, it’s all side pour here). Large dimple mugs stacked on the bar. Tanks behind the bar along the back wall where the magic happens. Racked kegs and malt sacks off the bar.
Concrete floors, and I-beams and light-colored rafters & cross beams. Ductworks and some clustered track spots. Inner wall of white horizontal wood and then some painted play; the outer walls of brick with panel windows. 3 picnics, 2 rounds, the cushy couch & chair set up, a forward bar counter ledge, and a wraparound bench nook in the corner around the bend with a logo piece above.
Grow lights over the ‘Reclaimed modular green wall’ piece, a most cool closed loop eco-system. A stretch of potted plants in rows filtering down to irrigate the row below, and below, and below, eliminating bacteria & cleaning, creating a habitat for fish in the basin below, and fertilizing the plants within. It’s a seriously incredible eco-situation and I dig it.
A few wood pieces (whale, squid, needle nose something fish) mounted around the saloon doors to where the bathrooms be. Potted plants, a game rack, vintage AB cases stacked, and a Pac-Man machine (Ben has tested me, no, I don’t know their names or nicknames but I think one goes by ‘Blinky’. Merch appears to be just candles, tote bags, & coffee.
5 house beers (Generic American Lager, 4.9%; Rice Lager, 5.2%; Mexican Lager, 4.9%; Munich Dunkel, 4.8%; Black Lager, 4.6%), and the Radler (½ beer, ½ lemonade, 2.5%)., + 1 draft hard seltzer (Fizz, 5.2%), 2 digestifs, & some NA play.
Had a few (Munich Dunkel, molasses, dark bread, malty, yum factor five; Black Lager, chocolate, bready, light roast, does not suck; Rice Lager, dry, a touch sweet, solid). Beers are damn good. And a Handshake Amaro to help the digestion thing in order.
Solid place for Lager love. Chill easy place. Friendly folks. You had me at Lager.
