I had this beer on-tap in a tulip glass at the brewery in Prague. This is a gose brewed with cilantro.
Appearance: pale yellow-golden hue with a dash of haze and a finger of frothy eggshell foam atop.
Smell: light malt with a bit of wheatiness, a hint of tartness, and just enough funk that it’s interesting without going over the top into displeasing. Really solid.
Taste: slightly sour with just a hint of funk and a proper amount of sweetness to give this beer kind of a “tart malt candy” vibe. I can’t really pick up on the cilantro, but I’m sure it’s adding a little je ne sais quoi somewhere in the mix. Saltiness is just right for the style; it’s a tasty and a very well done gose.
Mouthfeel: medium-light body with good carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: this gose strikes a good balance, with enough funk, salt, and sourness to define the style, but without going overboard on any one thing. The cilantro is super restrained, but for some people who are sensitive to it this beer may not work for them. For me, though, I think it’s great.
