a wicked first impression here from this newer operation, they call it a pils, but then also on the same can call it an american style lager, which i think speaks to this being really hoppy and modern, regardless of the pils malt it seems to be built on, this really is about the hops and about how well refined the whole thing is, a great recipe and super professional execution, impressive top to bottom, super drinkable and refreshing for how flavorful it is, real well done. crystal clear, yellow, fizzy but heady too, an inch of white wispy foam on top of an almost immaculate beer, lovely. this is done with citra and nelson hops, and those can be smelled and tasted well ahead of any grain in here, which is light and less european than anticipated for pils, clean and brisk and minimal, dry as a bone too, just enough aroma and flavor for both to be balanced, but the malt is merely a vehicle for these hops, which hit incredibly fresh. this almost smells like it has that thiolized lager yeast in it, lunar crush, but when i taste it, i reckon it could just be from all the nelson hops, bigtime sativa, kiwi fruit, sauvignon blanc, and white florals, very distinctive, a great showcase of this hop here, but it could also be thiol boosted, its just a little less over the top than it can sometimes be. the citra is great too, familiar soft lemon character enhances the white grape notes, and neither varietal contributes much bitterness at all. clean water profile, dry finish, juicy for the style, flavorful for a low alcohol lager like this, and overall really exceptional, refreshing with high carbonation too. looking forward to the other three cans from the four pack, and to checking out more beer from these guys next time i am in anchorage. this is great.
