Notes: Supernova is a Royal Australian India Pale Ale that is brewed with Galaxy hops from Australia. Just as shock waves created by a supernova's explosion expand out into the universe, Valkyrie's Supernova IPA's hop bitterness intensifies as you drink it ending with a powerful dry finish. IBU 90.

L - Dark amber. Slight haze. Short off-white head with fair persistence.

S - More malty than many IPAs. Sweet medium-roasted malts - caramel and raisin. Hops are relatively faint - maybe a little citrus.

T - Again, this falls well to the malty side of IPAs. Sweet medium-roasted malts are prominent, but the hops are more noticeable. Sweet caramel, toffee followed by a dose of resiny hops.

F - Medium.

O - This is described as a Royal Australian-Style IPA. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but this beer was less hop-forward than I was expecting. It does, however, have a nice flavor and a nice balance.

Pours a darker amber color. About a 1/2 finger off white head. The retention is amazing, and takes a long time to dissipate when poured from the bottle. Some lacing on the glass.
The nose just has a faint hint of hops. It has more of a caramel aroma than the standard - hop - IPA.
Taste - The hops come in on the backside, and the flavor does linger. Up front is a caramel, malt flavor that is quite pleasing.
The body is decent. The hops linger for a bit in my throat.
If you're expecting a "normal" IPA, then you're in for a let down. This IPA isn't super filled with hops. It is a very interesting take on the IPA, and it's quite a tasty change up from it.

Nothing special to look at. Aroma is mostly caramel malt with a bit of hop. Flavor's a bit similar to nose, more hops but they taste old. Body's ok. Ditto finish.

Supernova is tarnished copper in color and clarity that's pretty muddied up. As a matter of fact when help to the light it looks like thick, fresh pressed apple cider. The foam is dense and dirty white, a finger high and fading quickly to a skim coat but leaves sticky lace. The color and clarity seem a little off for the style.

The nose is a little odd and smells like homebrew of my past. Homebrew I brewed. Homebrews that wasn't very good. The malt is caramel driven, a little toast, and some faint earthiness on the backend. The hop profile is hard to pick out, it's very soft, but does lend some jammy orange notes and candied citrus. Smells like a green homebrew, not quite ready yet.

The flavor is better than the smell but that wouldn't take much. It's toasty with a caramel sweetness. The hops are in the background and rather hard to pick out. Tea leaf qualities combine with very faint, so faint it's hard to even pick out, sweet orange notes. The tea leaf dominates the hop profile while earthy malts basically wrap themselves around the whole.

As faint as the hop profile seems to be in the flavor department it does seem to bring with it some bitterness. The bitterness eventually reaches moderate. The body lies directly in the middle of the spectrum with flaccid carbonation. The lack of proper carbonation makes the body feel thinner than what it is.

Galaxy hops were apparently used in the brewing of this beer. I can't find a hint of them anywhere. It's a shame such a delicious hop was wasted on this guy here. It's not worth a drainpour but I would never think of buying it again.

Pours very dark, looks like an ESB or something. Dark chestnut brown, ample cream colored foam, lots of sticky lacing. 4

Toasty sweet malt aroma. Namesake Galaxy hops seem to be long gone. 3.25

Tastes ok if it were an English IPA, which is what it seems modeled after. Earthy hop bitterness, lots of toasty malt that has a mild sweetness, and a tea flavor from the hops. Sad that Galaxy was used, it's characteristics aren't really present at all. 3.5/3.5/3.25

Pours a dense, frothed head with good persistence. Nice, citric hop aroma. Clear, burnt umber color turns hazy when the bottom bits are swirled in. Starts bitter with bright notes of citrus fruit. Builds into a citrus rind bitterness, a flash of sweet malt, with the bitterness overpowering it quickly. The bitterness builds and intensifies into the finish; citrus rind.

If you like it citric and bitter, this one is for you. It's not too bad, but not the hop profile I prefer, even though I tend to love Galaxy hops. This one has too much lingering bitterness for it to be too enjoyable.

A darker shade of copper brown in color. Forms a moderate sized khaki colored head that slowly reduces to thick surface coating. Moderate lacing. Aroma is a blend of caramel malts, earth, and piney hopes. Taste is "dirty." Really - this one reeks of earth and dirt with earthy notes of pine bark and caramel malts. Medium mouthfeel. Mild bitterness. I have no idea what makes this beer Australian-style other than I assume it contains southern hemisphere origin hops, but this just an atrocious IPA.
