Pint pour at the brewery. Served in a shaker glass. It is dark mahogany in color with a creamy, light khaki-colored head that dissipated quickly and thick lacing. Its fragrant nose offers roasted malt, cocoa, nuts, and a whiff of caramel and oats. This is a tasty Stout: cocoa-forward, roasty, nutty, with a touch of oaty sweetness. But these flavors are well-balanced by the Columbus and Chinook hops that provide big (65 IBU) compensating bitterness. The flavors are distinct and blend well but are mellow in a good way. This Stout is moderate in body and lite in carbonation, and it drinks easily at 7.3% ABV. Overall, I liked Bale Out on draught a lot - enough so to buy cans to take home.
