The darkest beer in our Storm of the Season line up comes out when the nights are longest. We use Dark Chocolate and Crystal malts to make this bold porter style ale. Enough East Kent Golding hops are used to flavor the brew. However, no aroma hops are added which allows the malt profile of this brew to take center stage.

L - pours a dark brown, almost black. Swimming tan head and caramel fringes when held up to the light.
S - grain, Graham crackers, and brown sugar. Caramel. It's subtle and I almost didn't smell anything at first.
T - more robust than I expected. Toffee and burnt chocolate. Slightly bitter cacao with a biting hoppiness. Little grassy. Definitely some English malts up in this bitch.
F - has a focused creaminess to it. The "center" of the feel is rich and chewy, but the beginning and end are thin and watery. Low carbonation all around.
O - pleasantly surprised with this one. I thought it was just gonna be another generic, run-of-the-mill Porter, but it has character. It's not winter now, but it is cold (oh summer, where art thou?) which makes this a toasty treat.

Poured into a custom shaped pint glass: color is black, brown edges, head is light tan to tan, fine to small bubbles, 1/2 inch head top at first pour then dissipates to a ring with some lacing on the glass.
Smell is very subtle, waitied for it to warm some... but still never much more than a minor chocolate or roast note.
Taste is pleasant and very much a porter: moderate blend of chocolate, roast, and maybe some caramel - very solid mix of sweet/roast/bitterness - hops are lightly earthy, and show up more as a bittering quality.
Mouthfeel is moderately carbonated, then starts to dry the tongue out, moderate bitterness.
Overall a very good porter with an excellent malt profile and a bit dry mouthfeel.

Cola brown body nary a head. Smoke, malt, spice, dark fruit, vanilla. Light body with low to no carbonation. Slightly sweet with a bready, mildly bitter finish. Eh...

A: The beer is black when viewed from afar; upon closer inspection it is very dark reddish brown when held up to a bright light. It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that died down, leaving lacing on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of chocolate malts are present in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste is dominated by flavors of chocolate malts and has some slight hints of brownies and cola. Although no bitterness is perceptible, there seem to be enough hops so that they mask any apparent sweetness.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This porter seems to be a bit heavier compared to other beers in the style, which seems appropriate for a winter brew. I really enjoyed the chocolaty aromas and flavors.
