This beer is a variation of Coastal Extreme’s SheRIff Of Rock Ridge that is not aged in Thomas Tew Rum barrels. On-cask 7/12/2015 at Doherty’s East Ave Irish Pub, in Pawtucket, RI, served in a tulip glass.
A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a thin off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains raisins, chocolate, licorice, wheat, Belgian yeast and a touch of hops.
T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of chocolate and raisins. Then a strong breadiness comes in from wheat, Belgian yeast and a hearty malt character. The hops presence is mild and provides a decent balance. There is no hint of the 12+% ABV. The after-taste is bready and slightly sweet.
M: Smooth a little crisp, medium-to-heavy body, light carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down dangerously easily, slightly filling, strong well-disguised kick, good representation of style, it’s a decent beer but there are others in the style that I would choose first.
