This collaboration beer, a first for their barrel aging program, was inspired by, and brewed for Newporter Bobby Forster. A former employee of Newport Storm, Bobby was diagnosed with A.L.S. in December of 2014. Newport Storm is no stranger when it comes to brewing IPAs, but barrel aging a double IPA can be a tricky task. The addition of Cascade, Citra (Bobby’s favorite) and Motueka hops after aging were key in crafting a brew that boasts of orange, grapefruit and nectar fruits. Canada pale malt and malted wheat give foRIster a golden hue and 3 months of barrel aging leaves a slight oak finish on the palate.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into an imperial pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep golden brown color with a thin off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains floral hops, caramelized malts, citrus and some oak essence.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel, citrus and oak essence. Then a strong floral hops bitterness quickly follows. The malt character is hearty and brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly hoppy.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, strong kick, good representation of style, this is a decent beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.

Poured into a Victory tulip.

Appearance: Dark amber with 1 finger of aggressive head. Quickly dissipates, but leaves lots of lacing on the glass.

Smell: Very nice! Orange, musty herbal hops, and a hint of oak.

Taste: Lots of creamy citrus, with medicinal bitterness at the back end. Everything tied together by some sweet woody notes from the oak aging.

Feel: Medium body, crisp acidity, and well balanced.

Overall: A good beer for a great cause. Excited to try some more brews from this brewery.

Hazy straw colored, lightly carbonated DIPA, character builds as the beer warms in the glass, notes of oak, rum essence nicely compliments a subtle malt structure, subtle, piney hop character. Not overwhelmingly bitter, nicely balanced. An enjoyable beer from a very nice, well established brewery.

A - Medium copper gold color, thick soapy white lacing, mild carbonation.

S - Stone fruit, sweet candy-like, herbally, some citrus. Very unique and dry aroma.

T - This beer abounds with stone fruit and herbally character with some zesty orange citrus laying low, some basil chalkiness. Balanced all the way across and the ABV is very well hidden. Leaves a lingering oily/resiny floral citrus coating in the mouth.

M - Big heavy medium body, gentle carbonation finishes slippery/oily.

O - This is a unique D-IPA. The stone fruit and herbal character is something I generally don't like in a beer but I don't mind because this was brewed for a very good cause and that's most important.
