A: A golden pour turns a deep orange in the vessel with a light hazy factor. Macro-effervesce fills the vessel with a bready textured topping, bread white in color that provides a lasting impression. Speckled lace, half coverage on the glass.

S: Aroma of pineapple, freshly sliced, juicy and wet first on the nose, with fresh oranges and a sweet citrusy-lemon juice flair. Nice strength, average duration.

T: Grassy-citrus hops are abundant, with some oranges, and a nice tart lemony tone. Bready malts, semi-dry hops, bittering but flavorful as well. Things conclude with some citrusy-tropical and toasty malt notes.

M: Crisp, tingly and lively on the mouthful has a medium body.

O: A nice hoppy, citrusy and tropical golden ale that is somehow labeled a red here? Very good with a low abv% of 4.9% that you would never feel or know with the well hopped and well suited malt body. Big hoppy presence, worth a try.

Coastal Extreme Brewing Co. "Rhode Sodah"
16 fl. oz. can, no apparent freshness dating
$2 @ Giant, Media, PA

I have to admit I picked this up because of the packaging, and I'm actually surprised the Feds let them get away with it. I had no idea what it was until just now, so let's do this in "real time": Not much of a crack upon opening. As I pour it it seems to have a low carbonation level as well but I am able to bring up a short head of white. Unfortunately it doesn't last, but it does form a nice creamy collar. I can smell some hops at arms length, just a whiff and then it's gone. The body is a hazy deep gold that looks orange in the full pint glass. There's visible particulate in suspension towards the bottom of the glass. OK, aroma... citrus pith, citrus fruity, piney. It's not bold but it's fairly bright and fresh. The flavor is much fuller, and there's some clear yeastiness to it. It reminded me of homebrew at first sip. The carbonation is low, but it works, it's quite smooth. The malt is grainy and sweetish with some golden caramel. It's fairly full-flavored with a clear maltiness although it's not overly malty at all- it's medium-light in body. Although the head dropped quickly it did leave some nice 'drips' of lacing behind. The can says it has "...just a touch of bitterness" but that's not what I'm finding. I could be wrong but it seems like it's in the 30 to 40 IBU range. Ha! Still reading the can I at least agree with them in that they're not fond of the term "Session IPA", that seems like an oxymoron to me. Of course if you're going to accept that term, then that's exactly what this is, if indeed it is just 4.9% ABV. Overall, not bad. It's much more rounded than a lot of "session IPAs" I've tasted, although I'm sure many will whine that it's not hoppy enough; and I'll say myself that the aroma could be fuller, and it might be nice if the hops chosen stood out a little more, this blend of generic citrus and pine is OK but it could use a little something to make it pop. Of course I'm not here to make suggestions, just to let the reader know what's up, and on that note I'd buy it again. I like the smoothness of it, and the balance, and the malts and hops work together well as they are. The only thing nagging me is that yeastiness.

On-tap 8/19/2016 at The Celtic Pub, in Pawtucket, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light golden brown color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains caramelized malts, some fruit and a good amount of hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel, citrus and other fruits. Then a strong floral hops presence follows. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy and brings a very good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly bready.

M: Crisp and very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Very tasty, goes down quite easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a very nice beer to pound down for a long time.
