Limited edition on cask at Dohertys East Ave Irish Pub.
A clean dark brown beer. Has a small creamy beige head and leaves a nice coating of brussels lace. A chocolate porter that smells like... you guessed it milk chocolate. The flavor starts by covering your tongue with a smooth chocolate note. That begins sweet and quickly changes to a more bittersweet dark chocolate character. In the middle there are light grainy malt notes and hints of coffee. There is a good dry bitterness on the finish. While most cask beers have a much lighter mouthfeel, due I suspect to the diminished carbonation. This has a nice robust character that begs for more drinking.

On-cask 12/31/08 at Doherty's East Ave. Irish Pub, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a dark brown color, with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of chocolate, dark roasted malts and a touch of hops.

T: The taste is very malty as you would expect and likewise full of chocolate, but not overly sweet nor does it have the dry chocolate bitterness that would make you reach for a glass of water like some other chocolate beers. There's a mild but complimentary hops presence. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Very smooth with a little crispness, medium body, light carbonation, finish is pretty clean.

D: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, this is a nice beer to drink for a long time and I think the cask adds to the drinkability. Just when I was starting to get tired of chocolate-flavored beers, this one has restored my faith.
