Had on draft at Track 84 on 4/20/2009. Served in a standard pint glass. Poured the color of cola with a frothy, half inch tan-colored head that quickly dissipated into a broken skim of foam-some light penetration and red highlights when backlit. Nose suggests dark malts and rum - fairly subdued for the most part, but it does come out. Taste follows nose but also picked up hints of coffee, char, a little wood and perhaps some caramel. The rum nicely coalesces with the rest of the flavor profile without dominating, but the brew seems fairly subdued-nothing really stands out. Mouthfeel is just shy of medium-bodied with a light and consistent level of background carbonation. Solid offering from Coastal Extreme. I would definitely pick this up again if they added it to their regular line-up.

On-tap 4/18/09 at Track 84 in Warwick, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass. This beer was brewed with oak chips that were soaked in Coastal Extreme's Thomas Tew Rum.
A: The beer is a dark brown color, with a short beige head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is of coffee, rum, roasted malts, caramel and a touch of hops.
T: The taste is nicely balanced with sweet flavors of coffee and rum that make an excellent combination while not making the beer overly sweet. The malt character is hearty as you would expect and there's a little bit of creaminess. The hops presence is mild but complementary. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
D: Very tasty, goes down goes down very easily, not too filling, decent kick, very good representation of style while adding a twist, this beer is quite flavorful and one of the best porters that I've had.
