Named after one of our founding members and original brewer, Mark Sinclair, we broke some tradition within our “cyclone series”. Instead of “M” being named after a girl, the passion, heart, and sweat that Mark poured into the company during our first years of existence made it easy to buck this trend. A brew designed by Adam Truesdale, we went with RI tradition using Autocrats “Espresso Coffee Extract” and added this into the brew after fermentation. We really wanted to focus on the fun flavors of the extract and darker malts that contributed to Mark’s stout backbone, allowing the “RI” feel. Further, Lactose, a milk sugar, was added to give the brew some creamy mouthfeel. We didn't crowd this beer with too many hops...
This beer was soooooooooooooooo good when it came out, but due to the delicate flavors, expired quickly. Any bottles you find now are collectors items outside, and beyond their freshness date inside. Savor the memories...

No clue who sent me this one. Sorry for that. Poured into a tulip from the bottle.
A: Cola brown nearing black. Red edges. About a finger of head that fades quick but leaves a decent lace ring.
S: Sour chocolate and stale coffee. Damn this smells like it's got some problems. Tart cherry profile seems out of place.
T: Wow sour and acrid. Burnt black coffee and sharp tart cherry. Is this a wild ale?
M: Light and thin. Almost no carbonation.
O: Sad this one has gone south. Would love to try one that was in good shape.

A- Nice brown dark roast body, less head than I was expecting but signifigant lacing, which is always nice to see.
S- Sourness, and a bit of burnt sugar.
T- Sour as well. Infection? Dark fruit, a kiss of vinegar. Mild coffee, but the sourness comes through. Not a bad sour stout, actually, but I can't believe this is what they're going for. Still, I'm drinking it. I'm getting a tart cherry/wine barrel note that is throwing me for a loop.
M- Tart, which is the last thing I look for in a coffee stout.
D- Still not bad, despite what has to be an infection. I have to knock them for the QC... but this is an interesting sour stout. Not terrible, kind of enjoyable in a perverted beer way.

A - Pours a jet black with a tan head. Good head retention and a bit of lacing.
S - Not much here at all. Very muted notes of roasted coffee beans.
T - There's a very bitter, astringent, almost sour flavor that overpowers everything from the start to the finish.
M - Mouthfeel is to style. Light to medium bodied, fairly low carbonation level. Fairly smooth.
D - A decent stout in every aspect but flavor unfortunately. Very disapointing. Should be called a coffee sour milk stout.

Poured into an imperial pint glass. Color was a nice dark opaque coffee/cola color w/a reddish tiny and a very thin brown bubbly head. The head did not last long at all. Upon initial opening the aroma reminded me of rich coffee ice cream, but upon standing it assumed more of a burnt coffee aroma. It had small amounts of milky lactose sweetness. Taste was bitter and slightly sour. Not at like either a coffee stout or a milk stout. Felt thin and watery in the mouth with no noticeable carbonation. Not at all impressed with the drinkability, I would almost hope that this was an off bottle.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a deep dark brown color with a short dense light brown head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is of coffee, lactose, roasted malts and a faint touch of hops.
T: The taste is very creamy with a strong lactose flavor that is quickly followed by a bitter bite of black coffee. Some sweetness comes in next and think I can taste coffee syrup (although I don't know if it was actually used in the brewing process). The malt character is hearty but not as heavy as most stouts. The hops presence is mild as you would expect from this type of beer. The flavors don't seem to balance very well together. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Not very smooth and a little crisp but also a bit oily, medium-to-heavy body, medium carbonation, finish is sticky.
D: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, decent kick, although I like the concept of what they were going for, it seems as though it could have been done better. Overall, it's not as bad as I had heard, but it's still not a beer that I would pick over too many others.

A- An aggressive pour from the bottle yielded a a creamy tan head, which slowly receded to a haze layer. Some nice lacing throughout. The body is a completely opaque dark brown- almost jet black.
S- Smells of coffee with creamer and a shot of soy sauce. Doesn't smell natural... but it doesn't smell COMPLETELY bad either. A moderately strong aroma overall.
T- Does not taste like any other coffee stout I've had- and it doesn't taste good at all. Tastes predominantly of natural and artificial coffee flavors, with an undercurrent of unpleasant phenols reminiscent of burnt plastic. The finish is mildly bitter- a mix of hop bitterness with roasted coffee bitterness. The flavors are all over the place, clashing with one another.
M- A medium body with an impressive creaminess to it. A nice soft carbonation compliments the mouthfeel.
D- Despite it's nice appearance and mouthfeel, this beer is unpleasant in the nose, and downright bad in the mouth. I could barely drink enough to conduct this review.

12oz bottle purchased as a single from Yankee Spirits, Sturbridge, MA.
Poured into an imperial pint, formed a 1" dark brown head above the almost opaque dark brown brew. Head falls ever so slowly, with coating lace. Aroma is rich coffee, but with a tart undercurrent that warns me of tastes to come.
And here we are. Taste begins with a moderate rich coffee flavor, but that gives way quickly, and everything else is shouted down by overpowering tartness. Nearly a coffee lambic. Mouthfeel is thin and piercing, and drinkability is horrendous. Will not be back.

12 oz bottle poured into a small snifter.
A- Translucent dark brown body that pours with 1-2 finger foamy off-white head. Head fades quickly to a thin collar and has good retention from there. Little lacing is left behind in the glass.
S- Nose is rather good. Smells of sweet chocolate milk with a hint of caramel and molasses. A hint of phenols is also present-which is surprising for a brew with an ABV on the lower side.
T- Flavor progression follows that of a typical milk stout. Sweet, smooth milk chocolate flavors upfront with a biscuit malt backbone. Some alcohol and biscuit sourness come through for the finish-which is slightly out of line and unpleasant but its mild and easy to get past.
M- Low to medium carbonation and, for the most part smooth creamy body...a little bit of a chewy biscuit consistency in there too.
D- Interesting beer and worth a try. Typical for a milk stout and not the best example out there. Moderately enjoyable but 12 oz is enough.

Thanks to gillard for the share.
A: Pours a pale brown with a small head, no retention or lace.
S: Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, and subtle chocolate.
T: Flavor of light coffee, subtle chocolate malt, not a lot of flavor to be honest.
M: On the thinner side of body.
D: Not really. Nothing really coffee or stout about this beer.

Thanks goes out to ybnorml for this brew.
Pours a nice black color, nice carbonation, nice one-finger creamy tan head, with some nice sticky lacing left behind. The nose is malty, slight roastyness, chocolate/toffee, with a nice touch of coffee note. The taste is malty, sweet, some roastyness, and some chocolate/toffee notes, nice coffee milk taste. Medium body. Drinkable, I'm from RI so I know the "coffee milk" drink/thing, lol This does give me the hint of that. Thanks Wayne.

Pours a jet black with a big mocha colored head.
Aroma is nice! Vanilla, sweet cream, sugar, Yummy!
Taste follows with burnt chocolate, mocha, and sweet malt. Also has a touch of coffee milk. Its a really nice milk stout. The mouthfeel is a little weak and watery, but overall a really nice stout. The ABV is very well hidden, you would never expect this to be 7%.

duffextracold gave me a bottle and said "try this, it's...um, interesting." I believe that's beer geek for "hey it's really bad but I want you to drink it too."
Looks harmless: opaque black with a large beige head. Good retention and lace while it lasted. Cap underside says "I'm funny how? I mean funny like I'm a beer? I amuse you?" Magic Hat's asinine bottle cap rants are sometimes cute but this is just terrible. Boo.
Aroma is sweet caramel roast malt underneath an oppressive sour. Like a wild ale gone horribly wrong. Taste is abominable lactic sour over further sour grape sour with some charred fruit sour. Eew, eew, eew. This is just offensive. Some one owes me an apology be it duffextracold, or Newport Storm or both. I'm not finishing this.
Seriously, did anyone drink this before putting it on the market? Were they trying to create a new sub-genre of sour milk coffee stout?
And there's no coffee in there anywhere by the way.
My poor, poor palette.

Appearance: 1/3 inch head, dark brown in color, clear, moderate carbonation
Smell: light coffee and chocolate, cream, and sugar. A nice and inviting smell.
Taste: cream, sugar, a bit of coffee, dark chocolate, and caramel tones
Mouthfeel: moderate bodied, medium/light carbonation, semi-sweet
Drinkability: This strikes me more as a milk/sweet stout than just an American stout. You have to like sweet malt. I do and I feel this is the best from the brewery I have had so far. A nice sticky sweet dessert beer.

pours very dark with just a hint of light poking through...nice creamy tan head that retains very well. smells very faintly of coffee, roasted malts, and a weird sour aroma coming though. taste is WAY more of this sour flavor with a sharp metallic off-taste with some roasty notes poking through. The flavor is actually pretty offensive. Semi dry finish and thin body. Wow...I was expecting so much from this beer and have been let down in a huge way. I hate to say this, but this very well may go down the drain. I guess they can't all be winners. Looking forward to Hurricane "N."

Pour - pretty aggressive pour with lots of topping on a black body. Big fluffy white head that is slow to dissipate.
Aroma - big whiff of dark roasted malt and spent coffee grounds. Some caramel or unrefined sugar/molasses smells as well. Not as much coffee in the nose as I was expecting, its more just dark roasted malt.
Taste - sort of bitter and sour tasting up front with some coffee ground flavors shining through. Its kind of thin in body without the big stout flavors one might expect. The coffee flavor is decent but its not the flavor that stands out. There is also a metallic aftertaste that I can't seem to shake. I am left a bit disappointed by this beer.
Overall - Not the big bold flavors I was expecting from a "Cyclone Series" beer to be honest. Not much to set this aside from other standard coffee stouts.
Would I buy more of it? - I do love a good coffee stout so I will definitely look for this on tap while in Rhode Island as it may taste a lot better that way.

poured from bottle into pint glass
Poured dark black with a tan head that foamed up nicely and lasted a good long while, faint coffee aroma, first sip hits really sweet, much sweeter than expected but it faded pretty quickly, not heavy or thick at all, left you wanting to take another sip.
over all good beer, but probably not what people think of when they hear coffee stout. It actually tasted almost exactly like autocrat coffee syrup, which is more sweet than coffee tasting so if CEB was aiming for that they hit it dead on. Since it wasn't heavy at all if you like the sweetness you could enjoy several.

a: pours a deep black color with a light tan two finger head. great retention.
s: nice sweet, dessert-like nose. notes of coffee, caramel and vanilla are very noticeable. i like it. perfectly suitable for a milk stout.
t: roasted coffee flavor up front, quickly followed by caramel and hints of vanilla. very sweet, but the aftertaste isn't horrible. fairly clean and a very well hidden 7.0 abv. i'm surprised how much i enjoyed the flavor, as i'm not the biggest coffee stout fan, but i do like the occasional milk stout and this one certainly fits the bill
m&d: smooth creamy mouthfeel. decent drinakability, but i couldn't session any milk stout for that matter.
i'm really surprised at how low the score was for this one. as i just said, i really don't like coffee stouts or sweet stouts, but i found this one to be well balanced and a good take of the style. maybe i'm just used to drinking coffee milk...i guess it's a regional thing.
