Tasted recently by a pint at the Swim Inn, a JDW pub in Sheffield. Served by a handpump w/ a sparkler.
A: dark amber in colour, topped with a creamy and tight thin off-white froth with superb retention (the sparkler's work...); great clarity and minimum fizziness in sight.
S: barley candy and caramel sit on top of sticky burned red stone-fruits, tea-leaves, apples, spicy and earthy hops... all blended in one!
T: a mouthful of caramel at first, gradually dried leafy-tea and toasted fruit-slices (like stone-fruits and apples) follow suit; the foretaste is connected seamlessly to a profound flow of herbal, chewy, and tannic whole-leafy hops (reminiscent of Bramling Cross)... an aromatic aftertaste of rich biscuity malts and roastiness sustain in the finish, along with that wonderfully lingering bitterness.
M&D: lightly fizzy and medium-plus bodied, quite light overall for a 4.8%abv. Premium Bitter. The hop bitterness is a key balancer to the rich malty theme, making this beer a warming yet also quaffable one!
