a wildly unique beer, fashioned as a golden stout base, a trend that just wont die, but its really a fuller feeling and very well flavored golden ale type at its core, fluffy with maybe some oats in play, but it doesnt taste or feel like a stout and i really struggle calling it that. its done with coffee and hibiscus, a crazy combination im not sure ive seen in a beer before, but its truly successful, and while i wish this were drier and a little easier feeling overall, i love the coffee and the hibiscus and what they do together in here. pink hued, thicker, and with some haze, less carbonation than most of the other beers we had in here too, not quite expertly refined, but the color is neat. the nose is nutty from the coffee, hazelnut and almond to me, lighter cocoa, not a heavy roast and an almost natural process complexity, not sure what coffee they use but it rules, maybe from the impressive roaster in the alley behind the brewery, but i am not sure, could be african. the hibiscus is bitter and fresh, adds life to this, a currant fruitiness, and a tea-like floral thing, really neat with the not super roasty coffee, good grain base too keeping it beery. the flavor is the same as the nose, except there is a honey and vanilla wrinkle running through it that ramps up towards the end and makes this a little bit desserty, sweeter than it needs to be, but i like it a lot anyway, just cant drink it all day. the coffee is killer, first and last thing i taste, the hibiscus is super well dosed, and overall this is complex and abnormal in a good way, some herbal bitterness, dry cocoa, and almost watermelon fruitiness. never had a beer quite like this, really good and different!
