Yellow/straw color. Slight haze. Thick head - tight sparkler used.
Rich leafy hop aroma.
Taste follows the aroma with the addition of a caramel malt backbone. Balanced.
Moderate feel.

Every so often I find a breweries beers I've never heard of before, Ossett being the brewery this time, Excelsior being their strongest regular brew.
Pick up in Cleethorpes and with 4 months life left, it was poured into a UK pint sleeve for this review.
Pale and lager looking (gold and bright), a full foaming white head sat on top of the beer. On closer inspection a very slight haze could be detected within the body, but not enough to ruin its looks, but a haze none the less.
Cascade hops are used, unusual for a UK bitter, helps the lightness but didn't add anything to the aroma, which was wheaty, a leaning towards floral, but after everything, a bland smelling beer.
Hops, the Cascade boys now turn up to give some dryness; a yeasty, doughy taste combine within the flavours to make this a different beer to many I've reviewed.
Light bodied, yet flavoursome with a strong aftertaste, the alcohol (5.2%ABV) being more prominent towards the end of the session.

This ale stands out because of it's extremely attractive spice notes. All sorts of coriander and lime type sensations going on. It has a lovely golden colour typical of an amber ale. The flavour never tires but it is a little lacking in the creamy head department. Maybe brewing this in a Yorkshire square could rectify the problem.
Overall it leaves you wanting more and more and make me feel blessed to have been able to experience something so tasty. But watch out cos it's a potent brew disguised as session ale.

Tasted by a pint at the Swim Inn, a JDW pub in Sheffield. I was first attracted to this beer due to the pump-clip, which states that this beer was judged as SIBA National Strong Beer Champion 2006.
A: poured with a sparkler, it comes pale golden with a tight white frothy head that lasts forever; very fine and constant streams of microscopic fizziness in sight. Looking very promising and fresh.
S: a pleasantly buttery note & savoury-sweet yeasts abound upfront, backed by grapefruity-zestiness of hops and an underlying flowery hop fragrance. Dense and rich is the hop aroma, with a secondary entry of maltiness.
T: ripe lychees & fragrant bouquet abound, reminiscent of Cascade or other US varieties of hops turning more citric-bitter & zesty with a touch of tea-leafy dryness and long-lasting aroma of juicy pale malts firmly at the back. At the tail is the superbly lingering aftertaste of hop dryness.
M&D: very soft in carbonation, nearly silky smooth, sparkled by a restrained excitement of zesty hoppyness. Balanced, richly hoppy, delicious and more-ish pale ale this is. I havent tried the silver and bronze medallists in the same category in the SIBA competition, but I dare say this beer is a worthwhile winner by all accounts~~
