(Notes of Nov. 07) Tasted by a half-pint at the Devonshire Cat, Sheffield; served by a sparkler pull.
A: the bright red-ish amber hue comes with a thick frothy off-white head, on top of rather low carbonation.
S: fragrant fruity notes abound, plus Challenger and/or Goldings like hoppiness with a touch of apples. The impression is "clean" even on the nose, full of nice hoppiness but not imposing.
T: sour-sweet fruitiness full of apples, red-berries, pears plus mixed amber malts, skirted by a mild but rather deep touch of zesty citrusness; an intensifyingly chewy bitterness dominates afterwards. In the mixed aftertaste, a mild roasty hint of malts is balanced by equally deepening zesty hops with hints of tangerine or grapefruity peels; at the same time, it's nicely chewy-bitter on the palate.
M&D: clean, medium-bodied, very refreshing overall in terms of carbonation. A very drinkable pale ale full of enjoyable fruitiness and a decent complexity.
