Draft at Ruckus. Dark, dark brown, but still clear, patchy cream colored head, streaky lacing. Light roasty aroma, burnt toast, nutty. Taste stays focused on the roasty aspects, light bitterness, and mildly bitter. Abrupt finish.

a middle of the road beer for these guys, a fine take on the style, a little light on flavor actually, light on carbonation too, but relatively authentic to me, not flawed really, just a very mild take on a style that can sometimes be quite mild. reddish brown with enough shine to almost look greasy, not a lot of head. dark bread in the nose with subtle cherry and raisin, mellow on the actual german character both in terms of grain and in terms of the ferment, which is also relaxed in this, raisin, black tea, molasses, soy, toffee, maple, baking bread in the flavor, gets a little more expressive as it warms, a subtle rum thing, smooth and sort of fuller feeling but without it really being worked down to dry, which i think would make this a bit more drinkable, along with a bit more of a carbonation lift, which i do miss. its a style i was happy to see on the menu, and its a fine take, but the main thing with this place is that the beer is all pretty good but its also pretty forgettable, lacking soul and identity, and that is especially true of this one, even though its objectively quite decent. im curious to see if things get more ambitious on the beer list as they settle in a bit, i sure hope so...
