This balanced, award-winning pale ale has playful hoppy bite and smooth finish. Brewed with Canadian malted barley, a touch of caramel malt and 100% Ontario grown Centennial, Chinook and Triple Perle hops, Dog Park Pale Ale is a welcome nostalgic call back to American Pale Ales of old.

473 mL can from the LCBO; the canning date is smudged. Served barely chilled.
Pours a clear orange-amber colour, topped with nearly two fingers of frothy, foamy, off white-tinged head. A few minutes later, it has been reduced to a modest collar surrounding a sudsy cap, with a delicate swath of lace decorating the glass - looks good to me. The aroma consists of toasted grains and bready, caramelized malts, with hints of orange peel and spicy, woodsy hops.
It's flavourful for only 5.3%, with both the hops & malts standing strong. Bready, lightly toasted malts and caramelized sugars at the forefront, with citrusy hops adding notes of grapefruit, orange & lemon peels. Spicy, earthy hops and pine resin on the back end, with a bittersweet conclusion that combines caramelized malts with piney, citrusy hop bitterness. Light-medium in body, with gentle carbonation and a smooth, somewhat slick mouthfeel. I found this pretty drinkable, though some folks might find this too bitter to be a practical session option.
Final Grade: 3.98, a B+. Dog Park Pale Ale is the first Bickford brew I've had a chance to try, and while it certainly didn't blow me away, I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with it, either. It's a mellow, old-school sort of APA with a familiar hop profile, as well as a relatively robust malt backbone - it's not getting any bonus points for creativity, but I'd have no problem slogging this back on a semi-regular basis. A quality pale ale that is worth a try.

Poured a 473ml can into a pint glass. Dated 17/10/24. A one finger off white head on a hazy dark amber. Good head retention. Some fine lacing.
Malty nose. Sweet malts. Fruity esters. A mild citrus pine hop finish.
A smooth buttery body. Moderate carbonation. Overall well worth a try. Well made and true to the style.
