Quimera Brewpub "Witbier"
28 cl. glass/3,75€ on tap at the brewery on 20 November 2024
Notes via stream of consciousness: I'm a little surprised at how cloudy this is for a witbier. The body is yellow and the head is a short cap of bright white but it doesn't last. The aroma is a bit limited, or perhaps I just can't find it amidst all of the mustiness and old smoke within the tunnel that makes up the pub side of the operation. I'd go outside but there are two gentlemen smoking out there which is worse than the ghost of smoke from the past inside. I'm getting spiciness, oats, and wheat. On to the taste, the flavor is fuller but there's something a little odd - unless, again, that's the atmosphere - it seems like there might be some extra spice beyond the usual dried orange peel and coriander seed, perhaps some green cardamom? It's also very yeasty which lends it an extra bit of tartness against the sweetness of the malt. I wish I could come back and try this in the next week or so to see if the yeast has dropped and it's a little bit softer but that just can't happen. The bitterness is mild but it still finishes quite dry due to the spiciness and acidity from the yeast. In the mouth it's medium-light in body and crisp. I can't speak for the poor head retention and lack of lacing but the heavy yeastiness and extra acidity really hurt it. I know this can be better because all of their other beers are better but what I've got in front of me is not that good.
