Glass: Melvin 14-oz. Spiegelau IPA glass
Price: $18.99 for a mixed 4-pack
From: Blind Lady Ale House in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: Feb. 18, 2021
Consumed: March 5, 2021
Misc.: Collab with Humble Sea; Canned on Feb. 9, 2021
Bought a Highland Park mixed 4-pack when I saw it available at Blind Lady Ale House. I love that BLAH is doing these lately as I’m on their website every day. Highland Park’s website called it “A west coast IPA collab with our Santa Cruz buds, Humble Sea! A 7% ABV IPA hopped with Nelson, Galaxy, & Simcoe hops for huge fruity, grapefruit pith, & high intensity grape aromas.” Highland Park, Humble Sea and those hops? Damn.
Poured a medium yellow clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of white frothy head. Plenty of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. World-class spiderweb foamy lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled more Galaxy, followed by Simcoe and Nelson. Also peach, passion fruit, grapefruit rind, white grape, viney berry, pine, resin, mango and pineapple. A little better out of the can. (Smell - 4.00)
Taste wasn’t quite as good as the nose. In order got Simcoe, black pepper, bitter pine, resin, grapefruit rind, Galaxy, peach, passion fruit, white grape, Nelson, viney berry, mango, pineapple and green vegetable. (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, spicy finish. (Feel - 4.00)
This was very good overall but I was hoping for so much more from these two breweries. (Overall - 3.75)
