Fireweed Lager is a landbier lager brewed with fireweed.
For this beer we took inspiration from one of our favorite Fair Isle beers, Alexandra, which uses fireweed, a flower that grows in the Cascades in the Spring & flowers in the late Summer. The Fair Isle crew brought down some foraged fireweed & it helped to contribute some amazing notes to this beer, including aromas of green tea & lime.
This beer has a crisp zippy bitterness & slight brioche flavors thanks to the Linc Malt Baronesse Vienna & Lyon Pilsner malts

Pours a mostly clear bright gold color. Thick three finger velvety white head forms on the beer. Head dissipates pretty quickly leaving just a thin ring of white foam along the outside of the top of the beer. Aroma has notes of sweet bready malts, there is a light zesty citrus note on the aroma with some notes of white tea. It is really interesting on the nose.
Taste initially has notes of sweet bread, some doughy malt, and some spicy, grassy hops. There are some light herbal, green, floral notes that come through. Maybe some tea like characteristics? It is really just the fireweed bring through this herbal, floral, green character to the profile. It does work well with the base lager. Feel is medium to moderately bodied. has a bit of chewiness to it. Moderate, prickly carbonation. Semi-dry finish.
Overall it is a really nice beer. The fireweed is subtle, but does add this interesting character to the beer. I really enjoyed it and would like to see more lagers exploring more subtle ways to add some unique flair.
