Poured into a 12oz snifter from a firkin at fatheads Pittsburgh. Jet black with thin tan head. Smells of coffee with bourbon undertones. Not huge bourbon taste just subtle in the back end. Not too much heat. Lots of coffee up front with vanilla peeking through. Overall great BA stout and very drinkable.

From 07/29/15 notes. On tap at Fool's Gold in NYC at their Troegs tap takeover. Had 2 8oz. pours in a tulip. 2015 version...Troegs rep said it was closer to 13.5% ABV by the way.

Pours a deep brown, nearly black color, with two inches of dark tan head and moderate carbonation evident. Thick dark chocolate, bourbon, roasted malts, milk chocolate, coconut, vanilla, cream, and caramel malts. Thick full body and low carbonation.

Overall fantastic; a really great bourbon BA stout. Can't believe it is over 13%; sneaks up on you and not hot. Much like the Bourbon BA Victory at Sea I had last week, this is very good, but the coffee is very subdued, making it very different. While I think I liked the normal VAS better, I think I'd give this a slight edge to the normal Javahead. Can't go wrong with either though.

Served on firkin at the brewery. Pours jet black with a half finger tall off white head, quickly dissipating down to a light ring, leaving small streaks of lace on the glass.

Smells of warm bourbon, coffee grounds, cocoa powder, vanilla, bit of chalk and some mild booze. Taste is mainly the coffee, chocolate and vanilla up front slowly being joined by the warm bourbon, coffee grounds and some mild booze burn. Smooth, sweet feel with some light booze burn.

Overall a really nice bourbon barrel stout. The coffee is a little light compared to the base beer but it is still very enjoyable. Hope they bottle this one.
