With the brutal winter almost behind us, we’re ready for some hops! Our brewing team has been fine-tuning our HopCyclone for maximum dry-hopping goodness. Scratch #134 is a testament to pushing this new equipment to the absolute limits. Employing a veritable laundry list of some of our favorite American hops, this latest Scratch beer is a potent, hop-forward Imperial IPA rife with flavor and intensity. Thanks to Ffej for grabbing this growler for us to try, especially since it kicked the next day.
A - Pours hazy amber orange with a decent one and a half finger tall white head, quickly dissipating down to a light film, leaving spotty webs of lace down the sides of the glass.
S - Smells of pine resin, fresh zested tropical fruit, citric hops, fresh cut grass, caramel sweetness and a bit of booze. Really pungent aroma, love it.
T - Starts off with a big citric and piney hop kick quickly being joined by the grass, fruit zest and caramel malt sweetness. Finish is pretty bitter with some light warming booze, lingering long after the finish.
M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Smooth feel with tons of hop bitterness throughout. The booze is hidden well, only really coming forward once it warmed up.
O - One of the better scratch IPA's of recent memory. The hops are off the charts but it is still really easy drinking. I only wish they had made more of this for the public, I would have loved to try it on-tap.
