Scratch #146 is a full-flavored Amber Rye Ale chock-full of American hops added during two different phases of the brewing process. First, we add plenty of El Dorado and Nugget hops during various stages of the boil to release bold flavors of tropical fruit, fresh-cut flowers, and resin. Later, we dry-hop during fermentation with the one-two punch of Centennial and Chinook to push the citrus and pine attributes over the edge, giving Scratch #146 a well-rounded aroma profile. The addition of rye to the malt bill lends a hint of spicy dryness to the finish, adding more depth to the overall flavor.

On tap yesterday at the brewery.
Looking really good in a tall pint glass, light coppery color with a nicely contrasting white head, which kept throughout, only slightly diminishing. lacing was moderate.
Some sweetness on the nose, not detecting a spicy rye punch.
Not getting much rye on the tongue either, perhaps it fades, earlier reviews from a month ago detected more rye. Having said that, this is a really tasty beverage. VERY smooth, little carbonation, taste of a very sessionable beer, BUT, beware it's marked as 7.9, which is hidden extremely well. Likely one of those 4 and passed out beers if you're not careful. Seems extremely well balanced, with nothing jumping out at you.
Mouth was smooth and quite full.
Overall, an enoyable pint. The Troegs brothers do have some fun with their scratch series. Had an earlier rye offering (135?) that was also light on the rye, but decent in taste. Keep 'em coming.

On cask at the Old Toad during their cask fest.
Pours a clear amber color, with a small half inch head, and no lacing.
Smells like rye, citrus, pine, and grass.
The taste is pretty similar. The malt is more prominent in the taste- there's some caramel, and some spicy bread like flavors, almost like pumpernickel, from the rye malt. There are tons of hops, lots of pineapple and grapefruit flavors, with some bitter pine and grassy herbal flavors.
Medium bodied, nice cask, lively mouthfeel, slightly resiny. Very drinkable.
I wish we saw more of the Scratch series around here, some of them are really quite great.
