The next installment in our Scratch Beer Series is a popular German style known as Kölsch. Developed in Cologne, Germany, this particular beer is warm fermented, then cold conditioned (or “lagered”) to bolster the fruity attributes present in the Kölsch yeast strain. Pale and straw-colored with a foamy white head, this refreshing, medium-bodied ale offers subtle hop bitterness and a slightly dry finish with hints of white grape, spiced apple, and citrus fruit.

Served on-tap at the brewery.
A - Pours clear golden yellow with a nice one finger tall white head, quickly dissipating down to a small ring around the edge, leaving only light lace on the sides of the glass.
S - Smells of lightly toasted pale malt, bready dough, bit of light sweetness, dash of earthy hops and some light fruitiness from the yeast.
T - Starts off with some light sweetness and some fruity yeast quickly being joined by the chewy grains, some earthy hop bitterness and the light toast. Finish has a touch of sweetness with some dryness, not lingering overly long after consumption.
M - Light body with moderate carbonation. Smooth, slightly fruity feel makes it pretty easy to consume.
O - Not too bad all things considered. Not as clean and tight as I usually prefer the style to be but still decent.

Had this on 2014-09-06 on-tap at the brewery.
Not a lot of aroma. Good flavor for the style. Didn't get any to go.
