The Munich Helles Lager epitomizes the deep-rooted tradition of German brewing. “Helles” (a German word meaning “light”) is the perfect descriptor for this pale, straw-colored, thirst-quencher of a beer. With origins in Munich, Germany, the Helles style displays a few attributes of a Czech Pilsner, such as its biscuity malt profile. However, the use of Saphir hops produces a sweet, citrusy bouquet with hints of tangerine and subtle spices. Artful in all its simplicity, Scratch #170 offers a delightful balance of rich, malty sweetness and a citrusy zing followed by a slightly dry yet very clean finish. One thing is for sure… this unassuming lager is ridiculously drinkable!
