Over the years, it may seem like we’ve poked around virtually every nook and cranny of the IPA spectrum. Of course, we’re always searching for new rabbit holes to explore. For this particular Scratch IPA, we decided to highlight the Mosaic hop, a truly one-of-a-kind American variety with Nugget and Simcoe lineage (two of our favorite hop varieties here at Tröegs). With a namesake derived from its aroma and flavor profile, the term “mosaic” implies multi-faceted, exquisite, and complex. The same can be attributed to this particular hop variety. The Mosaic hop lends itself extremely well to the IPA, a style typically rife with bright citrus or juicy tropical fruits, intense pine resin, and earthy herbaceous attributes. Scratch #177 boasts all of these and more. Just like the vibrant, colorful piece of artwork from which the hop takes its name, this IPA is creative, artistic and expressive.

A growler from the brewery on 3/27. Have tasted nearly everything Troegs has produced since their inception and this is my favorite. The pine and citrus nose is astounding. I have always been a Nugget Nectar snd Perpetual fan but I like this more. Only available at the brewery but if you are nearby get it. Before it's gone.

Served on-tap in the tasting room. Pours slightly hazy golden orange with a one finger tall white head, quickly dissipating down to a light ring around the edge, leaving small streaks of lace on the glass.
Smells of strong citric fruit, fresh cut grass, dash of pine resin, bit of caramel sweetness and some lightly toasted grains. Taste is pretty much the same with plenty of citric and grassy hops up front quickly being joined by the light sweetness, toasty grain and some earthiness. Bitter, slightly sweet feel with some dryness lingering after the finish.
Overall a solid mosaic IPA. It showcases the hops very well and remains easy to consume. Definitely worth a shot if you have he chance.
