For the third consecutive year, we’ve partnered with the nationwide Ales for ALS™ program to brew a distinctive IPA to benefit the ALS Therapy Development Institute (TDI), the world’s leader in ALS research. Loftus Ranches, one of the Yakima Valley's longest running hop farms, has partnered with Ales for ALS™ to develop the proprietary hop blend we used exclusively in Scratch #201. This blend features Equinox and Mosaic varieties with five experimental hops to provide a broad palate of tropical and citrus fruit as well as distinct earthy and woody notes. So raise a glass to this worthwhile charity, because Tröegs will donate a portion of all proceeds from sales of this beer to the ALS TDI. Cheers!

Hats off to Tröegs for supporting the cause, I salute them!

On tap at the Tröegs brewery, it pours clear gold color with a 1-2 finger off white head that faded slowly and left outstanding lacing and rings as it went down.

Smells of caramel, floral hops, pepper, citrus hops, grapefruit, lemon zest, biscuit, lightly toasted grains, orange peel, herbs, tea leaf and fresh piney hops. Hoppy with enough malt backbone to balance it out, but the hops are the star of the show.

Tastes like it smells with tangerine, caramel, brown sugar, floral hops, mild spices like coriander and pepper, citrus hops, grapefruit, lemon, biscuit, lightly toasted grains, orange peel, herbs, tea leaf, graham cracker and fresh piney hops. Hoppy with enough malt backbone to balance it (like the nose) and a real crisp citrus snap that lets out more floral hops, pepper, citrus hops, lemon zest and general fresh citrus hops. Very fresh tasting, really enjoyable, it goes down easy.

Mouthfeel is creamy, smooth and almost watery, with average carbonation, a herbal leafy mix that gives the brew a medium chewy body, and a slightly bitter finish that ends on the clean side. A really good beer for a great cause, glad I got to try it.

Served on-tap in the tasting room. Pours clear Amber orange with a half finger tall white head, quickly dissipating down to a light film, leaving small webs of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smells of a strong mix of citric, piney and grassy hops with a touch of woodsy creeping in as they die off. Some light sweetness from the toasty malt help to keep it in check. Taste is good but not as bright as the nose. The hops are all there but the backing sweetness, toasty malt and faint woodyness are much stronger. Smooth, bitter feel with a decent amount of dryness at the end of each sip.

Overall a pretty solid IPA. The hop blend is very nice, just wish it held up a litte better in the taste. I definitely wouldn't turn down another if offered.

Growler into a snifter, the brew appears a clear copper color with a white head. The smell is herbal with some sulfur and caramel malt sweetness. The taste is completely different, almost woody, minty and herbal with a buttery taste blending to something like dirty canteloupe and caramel malt.

This is medium bodied and modestly carbonated. A very unique tasting hop profile on this but its unfortunate that it has the typical troegs house ipa yeast character that i find to be terrible. The hodgepodge of hops used here show unique promise but im not sold that i even liked it. Glad I got a chance to try this (thanks James) but I would avoid it in the future.
