Appearance: black in color with a 2" head that lasted a long time.
Smell: roasted malts and chocolate made up the majority of the aroma.
Taste: roasted malt, dark bitter chocolate, some sweeter milk chocolate, and a decent bitterness.
Mouthfeel: heavy in body. Lightly crisp to start, smoother at and a bit dry at the finish. Long lasting chocolate aftertaste here.
Overall: a really good chocolate stout that is focused on the chocolate.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Dark, dark, dark mahogany pour.. nearly black with 2 fingers of foamy brown head. Falls quickly with solid lacing.
S: Dark chocolate and roasted sugars.
T/F: Lots of roast character... sweet lactose and roasted malts. Chocolate is definitely present and gives a bittersweet character. Some hazelnut creamer and vanilla, but definitely tends towards the cocoa. Medium to light in body. Light carbonation. Finish and aftertaste is bittersweet chocolate.
O: Not a bad bittersweet milk stout. A nice dessert type beer... the 1st from Troeg's 'Scratch beer' list that I've tried and glad I had the opportunity.

A: Dark black in color with a fluffy tan head.
S: Light chocolate, a touch of spice and some bunt brown sugar notes.
T: Big chocolate flavor melding in with dark malts, toffee, raisin, and caramel.
M: Medium with moderate carbonation, and a decent linger.
O: Overall tasty... I imagine this would be killer on a nitro tap.

I love most of what Troegs produces. Quality stuff!!
I guess I just don't "get" this one. This is the 2nd bottle of this I've had. The first ended up being drain pour. I fear the same will be the case with this one.
It looks nice and dark like a stout. It definitely smells of dark chocolate. But for me, the flavor is VERY bitter dark chocolate. Most of us have heard of "cloyingly sweet." I would describe this as "cloyingly bittersweet." The bitter chocolate is overpowering. It's not really sweet, but there is still something cloying about it. I'm about halfway through this one. I may or not be able to finish it.
I freely admit that maybe I just don't like the style. For those who do, this beer might rate near the top of their lists. I just want to make sure that I qualify my review by stating that.

Medium to dark brown with a large frothy, light tan head.
Smell is milk chocolate, light acidic coffee, light hazelnut, and strawberry.
Taste is raisin, chocolate, medium roasted malt and coffee. Sweet mostly, with a touch of bitterness.
Thin but velvety smooth. A fizzy froth is finished semi-wet.

Had this at an outside bar where we are mug club members where they serve their own plus PA beers. Came out with no head at all and little lacing. Not sure if something was wrong with the pour or not. Was creamy and u can taste the chocolate for sure. Will have to try in a different setting to get a good read on this but it wasn't bad.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter
A- pours a dark black with a little bit of light creeping through, small creamy khaki colored head reduces to a thin film on top
S- dark roasted malt, cocoa, dark chocolate, oats, sugary lactose & vanilla cream
T- roasted malt and dark chocolate up front, followed by some grainy notes, along with creamy vanilla and milky sugars. A bit of caramel and coffee on the finish with a linger of sweet cream and chocolate
M-m medium body with moderate carbonation produces a foamy mouthfeel that turns into a creamy smooth finish
O- pretty tasty stout, this certainly drinks more like a milk stout, perhaps it's mislabeled on here?
