Amber Ales tend to explore both ends of the flavor spectrum by incorporating sweet or toasty malt characteristics with bright, floral hops. With Scratch #220, we’ve entered uninhabited terrain. This 11.8% ABV beast combines a chewy grain bill, plenty of dried fruit and burnt sugar, and a complex array of spice, lemon, and grapefruit notes. Welcome to the third dimension of Amber Ales.

Very nice. Smooth, great hops. Probably the best of the eight beers I had over two days of enjoying the ambiance of Troegs. Close second was the Perpetual IPA

On tap at Troegs and listed as a Barley Wine.

Look: It has a dark brown cloudy look to it.

Smell: There are aromas of cherries and sherry which dominate.

Taste: The flavors are dominated by cherries, sherry, and a vinous quality with supporting flavors of toffee, caramel, and apples.

Feel: It has a heavy feel to it and is bitter with alcohol warming.

Overall: It is a strong beer that is dominated by the cherries, and sherry like elements.

Draft offering at the brewery. The brew appears a hazy mahogany color with a khaki-like off white cap that holds fairly well considering the abv.

Nose of sweet caramel which is pleasant at first but then gives way to a yeastiness that seems green and underdeveloped/stressed. It honestly reminds me of that one year when both nugget nectar and mouflan tasted horrible because their house yeast strain went to shit. Remember that time? No you probably dont because if you keep track and notice that type of shit, you're a "hater."

The taste is sweet than a green tinge of young yeastiness and warming alcohol. Its not bad but once you taste that green yeastiness, its hard to shake and becomes distracting.

This is medium to fuller bodied with modest carbonation. Glad I got to try it but dont need to have this again.

On tap at the brewery 4.5 oz sample. I loved this one, better than the barrel aged mouflan I picked up. Huge aroma, buttered popcorn. Yea. Big malt bomb maybe a cross between amber ale and barleywine flavor. i was getting a little hammered to remember the details. Insanely chewy. This is one that should be bottled, as in today.
