Sampling a cellar temp corked and caged 375 ml bottle poured into my snifter. NO age on the bottle but Id say at least two years old so maybe 2017 bottling.
The cork pops out with a soft sound and the malty aroma is apparent immediately. The beer pours a dark clear mahogany color with a little bit of sediment coming at the end of the pour. I try to not pour much of this into my glass. A small, short lived khaki colored head of 1 cm foams up and fades to one large wispy island and a thin, but clingy edge layer.
The aroma is big and malty with caramel, brown sugar, dark fruits like plum and I get cherry too. I think some almond and dry oakiness is also present. RIch complex nose on this brew. No hops, but does smell a little boozy too.
First sip reveals a smooth textured easy drinking brew. Body is average and there is fine tingly, yet spacious carbonation. Physical traits make this brew go down really easy. Also no hint of the double digit ABV here. Yikes! glad its a small bottle.
Flavor is all malt, caramel and brown sugar again. I also get the rich dark fruit, plums mostly and a bit of dry oak on the finish. I also get peppery booze on the finish, but not any warming character. This brew is dangerously drinkable and very enjoyable as a malty.
Id definitely pick up more bottles of this one if I found em. Very nice dopplebock!

375ml corked and caged bottle into a pint glass. bottled 2/24/16, and since it's aged for 6 months in oak barrels, this one is 18 months in the bottle, 2 years since brew date.
body is a murky brown core with a bright amber surrounding. small off white head which dissipates to a solid covering and thick ring. little in the way of lacing. There are a number of quite large floaties here.
There is a very strong aroma of caramel, plums, and other dark bodied dried fruit. abv is 10.8 and present, but somehow muted.
Taste is quite sweet, as you would expect with a doppelbock. I'm not getting any of the oak from the barrel aging. There is a LOT of dark bodied and dried fruit taste. and I'm really enjoying rolling the drink around my tongue to bring out the fruit flavors.
Mouth is actually between thin and medium initially, but rolling around the mouth this increases to between medium and full.
Overall, a very nice sipper of a beer to enjoy in the evening. This is a below the radar beer which doesn't, to date, even appear on Troegs website, despite it being bottled 18 months ago, If you see it, and enjoy doppelbocks with serious character, grab it.

Look - Burgundy, Dark Brown, with minimal head and no lacing
Smell - Chocolate, Oak
Taste - Oak, chocolate covered cherries, and dark malt
Feel - Very drinkable for 11% just a slight hint of booze
Overalll - The oak is very pronounced in this beer along with the malt. This is how a doppelbock should taste.

Received in a trade from a buddy in PA. Reddish brown in color. Smell is very oaky. Great oak barrel notes on the flavor. Lots of caramel. Medium bodied. The 10.8% version of this is just oak barrel aged, not bourbon barrel. Great beer
